Inland Palm Beach County City

Listings in Green Acres, FL

Welcome to Greenacres, a family-oriented inland Palm Beach County city set among lakes, parks, and established neighborhoods.

Greenacres is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida, in the inland suburban corridor west of Lake Worth and Lantana and east of Wellington. It occupies about six square miles and is home to roughly 44,000 residents, making it the eighth-largest of the county's 39 municipalities. The city was incorporated in 1926 as Greenacres City, created to provide housing during a period of rapid growth in Palm Beach County. In 1990, voters approved dropping the word "City" from the name, and the municipality became simply Greenacres. That history left a mature, built-out community with established neighborhoods rather than the newer master-planned developments found farther west. Greenacres is a dense, family-oriented suburb where most residents own their homes. It is part of what locals call inland Palm Beach, a chain of working and middle-class neighborhoods stretching west from Lake Worth through Wellington and Royal Palm Beach. The city grew from a single-lane Jog Road and one elementary school into a community of nearly 45,000, and that build-out is visible in its mature, tree-lined streets. Recreation and education anchor daily life. Okeeheelee Park, bordering the city, spans more than 1,700 acres with trails, lakes, and sports facilities, and the community center offers programming for youth, adults, and seniors. Public schools are part of the School District of Palm Beach County, with John I. Leonard High School, the county's largest, located in Greenacres. For residents, Greenacres offers an established, convenient base in inland Palm Beach County, close to parks and schools and a short drive from the coast, at a scale and pace that feel rooted rather than resort-driven.

About Green Acres

Real Estate & Housing

Greenacres is a dense, established suburb where most residents own their homes. The housing stock consists largely of single-family homes in mid-century and later subdivisions, along with some attached and multi-family options, set across a compact six-square-mile footprint. As an older inland city, it offers a built-out residential market rather than large new master-planned communities, positioned between the coast and the newer western Palm Beach County developments.

Neighborhoods

Greenacres is composed of established residential subdivisions that grew up around the city's original 1920s plat and expanded through the mid-20th century. Neighborhoods are typically low-rise and tree-lined, with a dense suburban feel and a mix of housing styles. The city's compact size means most residents are close to schools, parks, and the commercial corridors along its main roads.

Lifestyle in Green Acres

Greenacres is a family-oriented, inland community often described as Palm Beach County's working heart. Its culture is grounded in neighborhoods and routine rather than resort glamour: Little League games, a farmers market, food trucks outside City Hall, and community-center programs set the local rhythm. The city's Tree City USA designation and its many parks reflect a steady investment in green space and everyday quality of life for residents.

Schools & Education

Greenacres is served by the School District of Palm Beach County, one of Florida's largest school systems. John I. Leonard High School, the largest high school in the county and among the largest in the state, is located within the city, anchoring secondary education locally. The city also contains elementary and middle schools within its neighborhoods, keeping public education accessible across grade levels.

Getting Around

Greenacres sits in inland Palm Beach County, west of Lake Worth and east of Wellington, with access to the county's major east-west and north-south corridors. Its central inland location places residents between the Atlantic coast and the newer communities of the western county, and the city's compact layout keeps most daily destinations within a short drive. Regional commuters reach employment centers across Palm Beach County by car.

Parks & Recreation

Okeeheelee Park, a regional county park of more than 1,700 acres, borders the city and provides extensive recreation including trails, water activities, and sports facilities. The city's own community center hosts youth, adult, and senior programs, and Greenacres' Tree City USA designation reflects its many shaded streets and parks. Residents also benefit from nearby county and state recreation areas across inland Palm Beach County.
